Seed Buyer FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions – Seeds

1. Are your seeds treated or coated?

Most HobbyHub seeds are raw and untreated — no fungicide coating, no pelleting. Where a seed is coated or primed (for example, some hybrid flower seeds), it will be clearly mentioned on the product page. If you don't see a coating note, you can assume the seeds are natural.

2. What is in each seed packet? How many seeds will I receive?

Every product listing states the net weight or seed count for that packet. Seed size varies by variety, so a 1 g packet of tiny basil seeds contains far more seeds than a 1 g packet of large sunflower seeds. Check the product page for the count or weight before ordering. We do not mix varieties in a single packet unless the listing explicitly says "mixed".

3. How fresh are the seeds? What is the expiry or "packed for" date?

We source seeds in small, frequent batches to keep stock fresh. Seeds stored in a cool, dry, dark place (ideally in an airtight container) remain viable well beyond the printed date, though germination rates can decline over time. We recommend sowing within the season for best results.

4. What germination rate can I expect?

Germination depends on seed variety, sowing conditions, soil moisture, temperature, and light — factors we cannot control once seeds leave us. We source seeds that meet standard industry germination benchmarks, but we do not offer a guaranteed germination rate on individual orders. For detailed guidance on improving germination success, read our article: Why Aren't My Seeds Sprouting? 5 Common Mistakes.

5. Which season should I sow these seeds?

Every product listing includes a recommended sowing season for Indian climate zones (North, South, coastal, etc.). As a general guide:

  • Kharif / Monsoon crops – sow June to July
  • Rabi / Winter crops – sow October to November
  • Zaid / Summer crops – sow February to March
  • Year-round varieties – can be sown any time with adequate water and shade management

If your local conditions differ, adjust by a few weeks. When in doubt, contact us before purchasing.

6. My seeds arrived damaged or I received the wrong item. What should I do?

We're sorry this happened. Please contact us within 48 hours of delivery with:

  • Your order number
  • A clear photo of the packet and the issue (damage, wrong variety, etc.)

We will review and arrange a replacement or refund in line with our Refund & Return Policy. Claims raised after 48 hours or without supporting photos may not be accepted.

7. How are seeds packaged for delivery? Will heat or rough handling damage them?

Seeds are packed in sealed, moisture-resistant packets and placed inside a rigid or padded outer mailer to minimise movement during transit. Dry seeds tolerate short-term temperature variation during shipping without significant loss of viability. However, if your packet shows signs of extreme moisture damage (wet or mouldy seeds), photograph it immediately and contact us — this is covered under our return policy.

8. Do you ship pan-India? How long does delivery take?

Yes, we ship across India. Estimated delivery times depend on your pin code and the courier's service level:

  • Metro cities – typically 3–5 business days
  • Tier 2 / Tier 3 cities – typically 5–8 business days
  • Remote or hilly areas – may take 8–12 business days

You will receive a tracking link by email or SMS once your order is dispatched. See our Shipping Policy for full details.

9. Can I return seeds if I change my mind?

Due to the perishable and consumable nature of seeds, we do not accept returns for change of mind. Returns are only accepted for damaged goods or incorrect items (see Q6 above). Please review the product listing carefully before ordering. If you have questions about a variety's suitability, reach out via our contact page before placing your order.

10. I have more questions. How can I reach you?

Visit our Contact page or email us directly. We typically respond within 1 business day (Monday–Saturday).
